Royal Armouries Fort Nelson is a historic Victorian fort built in the 1860s to defend Portsmouth as part of a ring of coastal fortifications. Today it is a free museum, home to the National Collection of Arms and Armour, where visitors can explore artillery, tunnels and ramparts.
Proud to support Portsmouth100, it celebrates the city’s military heritage and long-standing role in national defence. Through events, exhibitions and learning programmes, it connects communities with powerful stories from the past, inspiring curiosity and understanding while preserving this unique heritage site for future generations and making history accessible to people from all backgrounds.
