The Blue Guardian portrays the lion as a symbol protection and strength. This is exactly what Portsmouth is known for, it’s incredible defensive forces, Portsmouth Harbour and the Royal Navy.
The design draws on themes of defence, using nautical maps of the sea to create a guardian of mythical nature. The blue mane represents the dangerous waters many people had to sail across. The sand-coloured body of the lion has designs of old maps, nautical icons, compasses and some mythical creatures of the deep.
