Location: Victoria Park
For this project, Sunshine Roar is designed to sit in Victoria Park as a celebration of the park’s strong sense of community spirit and a thank you to the Greenhouse Hub for supporting local artists. The lion reflects the many ways people enjoys the park – whether people attend a workshop, enjoy an event like Portsmouth Fringe, or simply enjoy a picnic, play or explore. The lion is also a nod to the artist’s own childhood memories of the park.
The design incorporates elements of nature, flowers, creativity, music, and local wildlife for visitors to spot and count. It also features two quotes capturing the park’s joy. The design is rooted in the artist’s passion about creating art that brings people together, celebrates creativity, and responds to the local community. This project offers a wonderful opportunity to combine vibrant, playful art with public engagement, sparking curiosity and interaction in a space that holds special meaning for many.
