Southsea Common People

Created by: Daniel Stubbs

Sponsored by: Victorious Festival

Location: Palmerston Road

Southsea Common People is a simple and artistic representation of people enjoying the fresh sea air. It shows everyday moments – walking their dogs, playing with their children, chatting with friends, sheltering from the wind and rain, battling the weather, or taking a brief break from their mobile phones. Daniel wanted to show the busyness of city life in a more abstract and expressive style.

Although the title suggests Southsea Common, the scene could have easily been Gunwharf Quays, Baffins Pond, Commercial Road or Hilsea Lines. The design is inspired by people he has observed around the city during his many walks or cycle rides.
