Protheus is the lion who watches over the sea. His swirling mane is decorated with waves, stars and compass symbols, inspired by ships, sailors and Portsmouth’s harbour.
The patterns tell a story of journeys – boats arriving and leaving, tides shifting, and people helping one another along the way. Like a safe harbour, Proteus represents protection, guidance and care.
Look closely and you’ll spot sea‑themed symbols hidden throughout his design. This calm and gentle guardian is a reminder that even when we set out on big adventures, we are never truly alone.
