Pompey: City With a Heart

Location: St Michael and All Angels Church

Pompey: City With a Heart celebrates the people of Portsmouth and highlights the charm, beautiful places and friendly spirit the city is known for. Its title comes from a 1977 song of the same name, performed by Portsmouth Players and the Southampton All Star Orchestra. The name is not only a nod to the city and its well‑known football team, but also reflects what makes Portsmouth special – its heart and its community.

The artwork includes a large collage showing different parts of Portsmouth across different periods, including the Southsea Rock Gardens, Canoe Lake and Southsea Seafront. Other sections feature playful, intuitive designs in blue and yellow, long‑standing colours linked with the city.

The lion’s face includes a uniquely collaged version of the city crest, and a heart is painted on its chest to reflect the message behind the design’s title.
