Map of Hundred Portsmouth Stories

Libraries and Literary Locales

Created by: November Tan

Sponsored by: PMC Construction

Location: Cosham Library

The Lion, affectionately known as Mappy, carries a map of Portsmouth celebrating the literary city. It features 100 places, contributed by the community, that inspired and supported writers, reading and literary works. Stories and sketches from the community were extracted and featured on the lion.

Styled like an early modern map with symbolic images to represent Portsmouth’s literary and reading heritage, Mappy invites visitors to explore the city and works by local writers. Discover references to famous local authors like Dickens, Doyle and Austen, and local landmarks such as the Central Library which is home to the largest naval book collection in the UK.
