Heaven’s Light is inspired by Portsmouth’s Coat of Arms. This features several significant symbols including a star, moon crescent and a sea unicorn and the sea lion and the motto ‘Heaven’s Light, Our Guide’.
David was drawn to the night sky, particularly the Northern Lights which are beautiful, majestic and heavenly. The night sky and constellations can be a guiding light to those at sea.
For this reason, David wanted to show the marriage between an otherworldly sky featuring the constellations (Lion and the Unicorn) and a significant, dominant star and crescent moon. This overlooks the iconic skyline of Portsmouth architecture and key attractions. These two elements seemed like a perfect match.
