Cumberland Rose

Created by: Katherine Griffin

Sponsored by: Stagecoach

Location: Canoe Lake

As a child, Katherine’s absolute favourite place to visit was Cumberland House, she loved being enveloped in the history, geology and exploring the interactive exhibits. She fell in love the entire area around Canoe lake and visits regularly with her own children. They connect with it all and love it just as much as Katherine does! She’s keen to celebrate and elevate all this area has to offer, from the iconic pedalos at canoe lake, the swans, the green, the cafes, the gardens, Cumberland house and the butterfly house.

It is an absolute gem of the city and all within a stone’s throw of the sea, her design pays homage to the joy it brings. Katherine has included roses as a nod to Southsea’s divine Rose Gardens, their beauty and aroma provide sanctuary, there is an abundance beautiful nature to explore on Southsea’s doorstep. She’s included the iconic paving slab pattern from the promenade. She says ‘I’m sure there isn’t a person who grew up in Portsmouth who hasn’t run along the lighter bits!’
