Commodore Cat is inspired by the classic “rubber‑hose” animation style of early Disney, bringing a fresh and playful character to the trail. His design reflects Portsmouth’s rich history and heritage.
He is presented as a Navy commodore, celebrating the city’s strong naval roots through symbols, tattoos and clothing linked to maritime life. His mane is shaped like an ocean wave, and he features details such as a Spinnaker Tower tattoo, the Mary Rose, and a prosthetic glass leg earned through his military service. The leg is filled with water like a small aquarium and paired with a diving helmet, highlighting Portsmouth’s long-standing connection to diving.
On his right‑hand side, visitors will spot the Hampshire rose, the steering wheel of HMS Victory, Sherlock Holmes’ pipe, books representing Charles Dickens, Portsmouth FC, and the D‑Day invasion stripes. He even has a rope tail – perfect for emergencies at sea.
