A Pattern of Portsmouth is a data visualisation artwork based on the 2021 Census. This artwork takes statistics and transforms them into a non-numerical language of circles and colour. By replacing traditional spreadsheets with a vivid, organic pattern, the piece celebrates the lion’s spirit while encouraging curiosity.
One side of the lion explores the community’s health across age and religions, while the other reveals local employment trends through the lens of age and gender. Each spot represents a piece of our city’s collective story, inviting engagement with Portsmouth’s demographics through the eyes rather than through numbers.
