Activity pack
Whether you’re exploring the Pride of Portsmouth sculpture trail, visiting one of our local libraries or looking for something fun to do during the school holidays, our free activity pack is packed with lion-themed activities to keep young explorers busy.
Created for children and families, the pack encourages creativity, problem-solving and observation while helping children engage with the lions they discover across Portsmouth. The activities can be completed at home, in school, at a holiday club or while out exploring the trail.
Inside the pack you’ll find a variety of activities to enjoy:
Design your own lion
Our Pride of Portsmouth lions have each been individually decorated by artists. Take inspiration from the sculptures around the city and create your own lion design using colours, patterns and imaginative ideas.
Dot-to-dot, maze and puzzles
Put your problem-solving skills to the test with a range of activities including:
- a lion-themed dot-to-dot challenge
- a maze to help Leo the lion find his way home
- a wordsearch
- letter unscrambling puzzles
Colour a lion mask
Transform yourself into a member of the pride by colouring, cutting out and assembling your very own lion mask. You can even stick the mask to cardboard to make it stronger before wearing it on your adventures.
My journey on the sculpture trail
Use the trail journal page to draw some of your favourite lion sculptures, describe their designs and remember what made each one special. It’s a great way to capture memories of your Pride of Portsmouth experience.
Trail certificate
Once you’ve completed the trail, celebrate your achievement with a special Pride of Portsmouth certificate. Colour it in, personalise it and show everyone that you’ve completed your roarsome adventure around the city.

Keep the Pride of Portsmouth adventure going with our suggested reading list. From picture books and early readers to exciting adventures and fascinating facts about lions, there’s something for children of all ages to enjoy.
We’ve grouped the books by age range to help parents, carers and teachers find suitable titles. Whether your child enjoys stories about friendship and courage, or wants to learn more about lions and wildlife, these books are a great way to inspire a love of reading while connecting with the Pride of Portsmouth trail.
