Leonardo Da Pompey roars into action across Portsmouth!

October 3, 2025

Leonardo Da Pompey, the hero lion for Pride of Portsmouth lion art trail, looks out at the sea from the Hotwalls

There’s a new mane attraction in town! If you’ve been out exploring Portsmouth lately, you might have caught a glimpse of a wild visitor prowling the city’s most iconic spots. Meet Leonardo Da Pompey, a lion with paws-itively majestic style, designed and painted by local artist Louise Braithwaite.

Leonardo has been on a roaring tour of the city, getting a sneak peek at some of the purr-fect locations that will feature in the upcoming lion trail, part of the Portsmouth 100 celebrations launching in summer 2026.

So far, he’s strutted his stuff at the Historic Dockyard, scaled the claw-some heights of the Spinnaker Tower, surveyed the city from Portsdown Hill, and soaked up the seaside charm of Old Portsmouth. He even made a pounce over to Hampshire FA!

But don’t paws just yet, Leonardo’s journey is far from over. He’ll be padding his way to more fur-midable destinations in the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready; you never know where he will pop up next!

Where will Leonardo Da Pompey pounce to next? Follow him as he continues to prowl across the city, ahead of being joined by the rest of the pride in summer 2026!
